I did not know this until now.
This is most interesting.....and touching.
Never heard of this before.
I humbly share it with you.

While "Cleaning of the Stones" at the National Cemetery in Holly, I noticed a quarter placed on one of the stones.
Later, I also noticed a nickel placed on another stone, I was so touched with this that I took pictures. (sorry the nickel did not turn out). I Googled about the coins and found this out. I am very proud to share this. A coin left on a headstone lets the deceased soldier's family
know that somebody stopped by to pay their respect.
Leaving a penny means you visited.

A nickel means that you and the deceased soldier trained at boot camp together.
If you served with the soldier, you leave a dime.
A quarter is very significant because it means that you were there when that soldier died.
I AM VERY PROUD TO SHARE THIS.

VA Expands Review of Chemical Exposure in Drinking Water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune
WASHINGTON – As part of VA's ongoing commitment to provide care to Veterans and their families, the Department of Veterans Affairs today announced that it will start the  process of amending its regulations to establish presumptions of service connection for certain conditions resulting from exposure to contaminated drinking water at the U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
This process is in addition to the healthcare VA already provides for 15 conditions to eligible Veterans who were stationed at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days between August 1, 1953 and December 31, 1987 as a result of the Honoring America's Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012.  VA also provides reimbursement of healthcare expenses for those 15 conditions to eligible family members who resided at Camp Lejeune during that time period.
The Secretary of Veterans Affairs recently met with Senators Isakson, Burr and Tillis and the Director of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) to discuss the creation of presumptions of service connection for diseases associated with the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune.  The diseases that are currently being reviewed for potential presumptive service connection include kidney cancer, angiosarcoma of the liver, and acute myelogenous leukemia, which are known to be related to long-term exposure to the chemicals that were in the water at Lejeune from the 1950s through 1987.  The chemicals are Benzene, Vinyl Chloride, Trichloroethylene and Perchloroethylene, which are known as volatile organic compounds, used in industrial solvents and components of fuels.  ATSDR and VA representatives will meet at ATSDR offices on August 19 to begin discussions on establishing these presumptions.
VA will also work with ATSDR and potentially the National Academy of Sciences to evaluate the body of scientific knowledge and research related to exposure to these chemicals and the subsequent development of other diseases. VA will carefully consider all public comments received when determining the final scope of any presumptions.
Veterans with health problems they believe are related to exposure to the water at Camp Lejeune may file a claim for disability compensation online at www.ebenefits.va.gov, or call 1–800–827–1000 for assistance.
For more information, Veterans and family members should contact the nearest VA healthcare facility by calling 1–877–222–VETS (8387) or visit www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/camp-lejeune. For further information on Camp Lejeune: VHA Office of Public Health has a Website on Camp Lejeune historical water contamination at: www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/camp-lejeune/index.asp.
The U.S. Marine Corps encourages all those who lived or worked at Camp Lejeune before 1987 to register for notifications regarding Camp Lejeune Historic Drinking Water at https://clnr.hqi.usmc.mil/clwater.

Veterans of WWII who served in combat, or behind the lines, or Stateside during the war are invited to take part and be honored. Their families are also warmly encouraged to  attend. Additionally, U.S. veterans of all periods of service and their families are welcome to participate and honor those patriots who came before them.

-------------------------------
NORTHERN NEVADA :
Where : Veterans Cemetery,
14 Veterans Way

Keynote Speaker: Fernley, Nevada Mayor Roy Edgington, Jr.
Veterans of WWII (or their widows) will each receive a distinctive pin at the ceremonies commemorating their service. The ceremonies are designed to honor all surviving and departed veterans who served honorably in WWII. At the end of the war in 1945, Americans all across the nation shouted, cried, rejoiced, exalted, prayed and sang the praises of the country's fighting forces who defended the nation by bravely combating enemy forces on several continents. Kat Miller, director of the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, said, "That patriotic spirit is rekindled each year during the 'Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive' campaign that serves to honor World War Two veterans. It also serves to keep patriotic  memories alive in the minds and hearts of the public." Her department is hosting the twin laudatory events at both ends of the state.

Military Order of the Purple Heart National Convention Meets in Las Vegas, Nevada

LAS VEGAS--()--The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) and the Ladies Auxiliary of the MOPH are pleased to announce that the National Convention will be held this year in Las Vegas, Nevada at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort and Spa during the week of 4 - 8 August 2015.
“Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Inc.”
This annual event brings together the Commanders and delegates of the Order’s Regions, Departments, Chapters and Units to elect the National Leadership of the Order for the upcoming year. Delegates will participate in training sessions, review the business of the past year, approve new governing amendments and organizational bylaw changes, and set the organization's goals and objectives for coming year.
A number of key events coincide with the Convention including a welcoming address by Representative Dina Titus and the keynote address by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs, Bob McDonald on Tuesday evening, August 4, at the Joint Opening Ceremony. The ceremony will be streamed live at http://www.eventstreamingnetwork.com/moph_lamoph_2015/
While in Las Vegas, delegates will have the opportunity to visit local attractions including the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. On Thursday afternoon, August 6, there will be a charity golf tournament to benefit the Las Vegas Fisher House in association with the Nevada Veterans Foundation. On Friday, August 7th, the Empire State Building in Manhattan will be lit in purple lights to commemorate “National Purple Heart Day.” The media is invited to attend the joint opening ceremony on Tuesday, August 4th, at 4:30 PM. All other meetings are closed to the public.
The organization now known as the "Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Inc.," (MOPH) was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all combat wounded veterans and active duty men and women who have received the decoration. Chartered by the Congress, The MOPH is unique among Veteran Service Organizations in that all its members were wounded in combat. For this sacrifice, they were awarded the Purple Heart Medal. With grants from the MOPH Service Foundation, the MOPH and its Ladies Auxiliary promote Patriotism, Fraternalism, and the Preservation of America's military history. Most importantly, through veteran service, they provide comfort and assistance to all Veterans and their families, especially those requiring claims assistance with the VA, those who are homeless, and those requiring employment assistance. Programs of the MOPH include VA Volunteer Service, JROTC Leadership Award, Scholarships, Americanism, Purple Heart Trail and Cities, Welfare, and numerous community service programs, all with the objective of service to Veterans and their families.
