                                   For Our Veteran Community

We have purchased backpacks & school supplies for our veteran's families. We have a limited supply, so if you would like to apply for one or more, please do so as soon as possible.
If you have applied with another organization, please do not apply with Thank A Vet.
The school supplies we give out will not be everything your child will need, but a start.


How To:

2. Go to the Help menu & click on
3. Fill out the application
4. Put in the grades that you need backpacks for
5. Submit application (We will call you & confirm)

You will need to pickup the backpacks on Aug 15th-Saturday
9-11 AM

      World War II Veterans, Families, Invited To 70th Anniversary Events
 
                The 70th anniversary of the end of World War II will be celebrated simultaneously in Southern Nevada and Northern Nevada during the annual "Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive" campaign. Veterans of WWII who served in combat, or behind the lines, or Stateside during the war are invited to take part and be honored. Their families are also warmly encouraged to  attend. Additionally, U.S. veterans of all periods of service and their families are welcome to participate and honor those patriots who came before them.
 
SOUTHERN NEVADA :

                Veterans of WWII (or their widows) will each receive a distinctive pin at the ceremonies commemorating their service. The ceremonies are designed to honor all surviving and departed veterans who served honorably in WWII. At the end of the war in 1945, Americans all across the nation shouted, cried, rejoiced, exalted, prayed and sang the praises of the country's fighting forces who defended the nation by bravely combating enemy forces on several continents. Kat Miller, director of the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, said, "That patriotic spirit is rekindled each year during the 'Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive' campaign that serves to honor World War Two veterans. It also serves to keep patriotic  memories alive in the minds and hearts of the public." Her department is hosting the twin laudatory events at both ends of the state.

Military Order of the Purple Heart National Convention Meets in Las Vegas, Nevada

LAS VEGAS--()--The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) and the Ladies Auxiliary of the MOPH are pleased to announce that the National Convention will be held this year in Las Vegas, Nevada at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort and Spa during the week of 4 - 8 August 2015.
“Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Inc.”
This annual event brings together the Commanders and delegates of the Order’s Regions, Departments, Chapters and Units to elect the National Leadership of the Order for the upcoming year. Delegates will participate in training sessions, review the business of the past year, approve new governing amendments and organizational bylaw changes, and set the organization's goals and objectives for coming year.
A number of key events coincide with the Convention including a welcoming address by Representative Dina Titus and the keynote address by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs, Bob McDonald on Tuesday evening, August 4, at the Joint Opening Ceremony. The ceremony will be streamed live at http://www.eventstreamingnetwork.com/moph_lamoph_2015/
While in Las Vegas, delegates will have the opportunity to visit local attractions including the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. On Thursday afternoon, August 6, there will be a charity golf tournament to benefit the Las Vegas Fisher House in association with the Nevada Veterans Foundation. On Friday, August 7th, the Empire State Building in Manhattan will be lit in purple lights to commemorate “National Purple Heart Day.” The media is invited to attend the joint opening ceremony on Tuesday, August 4th, at 4:30 PM. All other meetings are closed to the public.
The organization now known as the "Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Inc.," (MOPH) was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all combat wounded veterans and active duty men and women who have received the decoration. Chartered by the Congress, The MOPH is unique among Veteran Service Organizations in that all its members were wounded in combat. For this sacrifice, they were awarded the Purple Heart Medal. With grants from the MOPH Service Foundation, the MOPH and its Ladies Auxiliary promote Patriotism, Fraternalism, and the Preservation of America's military history. Most importantly, through veteran service, they provide comfort and assistance to all Veterans and their families, especially those requiring claims assistance with the VA, those who are homeless, and those requiring employment assistance. Programs of the MOPH include VA Volunteer Service, JROTC Leadership Award, Scholarships, Americanism, Purple Heart Trail and Cities, Welfare, and numerous community service programs, all with the objective of service to Veterans and their families.

Fellow Patriots, Friends, and Families:
Today we pause to celebrate the 239th anniversary of our American Independence. We Americans think of July 4, 1776 as the date the colonies declared their independence, giving birth to the United States of America as an independent nation. But did you know that the Declaration wasn't actually signed until August 2, 1776? So what did happen on July 4th? That was the date that the Continental Congress approved the final wording of the Declaration of Independence, and that date was included on both the draft document and the fancy handwritten copy that the fifty-six colonial representatives signed when they came together on August 2, 1776.
The signing of the Declaration of Independence was an act of great courage. It was noted at the time that the signers "pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honors; and that was more than just rhetoric. Each of those men knew the penalty for high treason to the Crown." At the time, Benjamin Franklin said, "We must all hang together, or, assuredly, we will all hang separately.''
These were incredibly brave men and they stayed brave through all the bloodshed of the coming revolution. Their courage created a nation built on a universal claim to human dignity, on the proposition that every man, woman, and child had a right to a future of freedom. It is worth reminding ourselves of the words our forefathers wrote as they took this historical stand: ``We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."
Through the years since 1776, generations of Americans have gone to war to defend the rights of ourselves and others to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Our motives have been just; we have never sought to dominate or occupy the lands of others; only to help guarantee these same principles of human rights for all. We are the successors to the brave men who fought for the freedoms all Americans enjoy. Our young men and women in uniform today, as were their parents and grandparents, are just as willing, just as brave, and just as ready to lay down their lives to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."
On this Independence Day, we are reminded of the words of President Ronald Reagan, who asked that we "celebrate the things that unite us -- America's past of which we're so proud, our hopes and aspirations for the future of the world and this much-loved country -- these things far outweigh what little divides us. And so we reaffirm that Jew and gentile, we are one nation under God; that black and white, we are one nation indivisible; that Republican and Democrat, we are all Americans. With heart and hand, through whatever trial and travail, we pledge ourselves to each other and to the cause of human freedom, the cause that has given light to this land and hope to the world."
