Dear MOPH Members: Following is sent on behalf of the National Commander:
30th September, 2013

The Honorable Carl Levin
Chairman, Committee on Armed Services
228 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510-6050

Dear Senator Levin:

On behalf of the membership of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), whose membership is comprised entirely of combat wounded veterans we request that you support legislation, passed by the House to support enhanced treatment options for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

In HR 1960, the FY2014 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the House included language in Section 733, authorizing a pilot program allowing for the treatment of service members suffering from TBI and PTSD by private sector physicians and treatment centers.
Currently, private sector physicians across the United States are treating brain injury patients with new and innovative treatments, not available in military medical facilities with remarkable results. This pilot program would allow our brain injured service members an opportunity to receive innovative "state of the art" medical care.

Specific guidelines regarding this pilot program, including budget, patient costs, "pay for performance" and FDA approval, are clearly set forth in Section 733.
It is our hope that your committee will vote to include Section 733 of the House passed HR 1960, NDAA in the Senate version of the Act.

Respectfully,

Ron Siebels
National Commander
